The Bigger They Are

I tried to get some experience points in the crawler's nest, but we didn't have a real tank and the party disbanded after an hour with very little progress. They wanted to fight Nest Beetles, which meant we were resting after every fight. It would've been much better to fight Worker Crawlers and killing them over and over again with little downtime. Our Monk died, I used Benediction (and survived!), and that was pretty much it. I spent the rest of the evening running around and doing quests in Bastok.

Neyla wanted to take on one of the giants running around Quifum Island. I went along as backup, but we needn't have worried. She completely kicked their asses. I was Lv 36 when I killed a giant, and I had Neyla backing me up with cures because I ran out of mana and couldn't cast anymore spells. She just hacks them to death. It's a wonderful thing to see.

I was going to try another giant, but someone shouted for a raise. I'm like a little paramedic. If there's a body on the ground, I'm running to revive it.

Exploring Palborough

I didn't do anything highly productive today. I spent the morning doing a little fishing, but mostly it was a lot of unfocused running around with little point. The high point was hooking up with Falseprophet for a run to the ferry in Mhaura to see if their bait shop sold Shrimp Lures. It didn't, and I spent the trip to Selbina fishing off the ferry without catching anything despite getting some nibbles on the line.

Later in the evening, I decided I would start unlocking the Dark Knight job. I traveled to Bastok to start the quest, then headed back into Palborough Mines to find the Galka who gives you the sword you need. Instead of going straight to him, I decided to explore the mines. I investigated every nook and cranny I could find and marked the more interesting areas on my map for future reference. I found several mythril seams, so I may come back with pickaxes later. I also found a treasure chest, but I couldn't open it because I didn't have a key.

I fought a few monsters while I was there. I started whacking away at a Copper Quadav and one of his buddies, an Old Quadav, came over to help. It didn't do any good, and they were quickly dead at my feet and I hadn't even broken a sweat.

I left the mines and helped Skoal fight the leeches for the Ninja job. I'm glad I marked everything on my map during the run with Lavi and Kea, because I was able to lead him right to it. The fight took about a minute; Skoal is a summoner, and he used Ramuh to put the smackdown on the leeches. All we had to do was the cleanup.
