Dust on the Lu Shang

I guess I'll get into the habit of collecting my avatar bounty before I log out on Sundays, because putting it off bit me on the ass today. I woke up this morning and remembered it about ten minutes before the Conquest update, which isn't enough time to make the rounds. Blegh. That meant fighting the annoying ones -- Garuda, Ifrit and Leviathan -- or skipping them altogether.

sent Dalamar a /tell and explained my failure, but it worked out because he had in-laws coming from out-of-state and wasn't sure he'd be able to do the avatar fights anyway. I floated the idea of doing them Monday instead, and he said that would be ideal because he needed the gil. Neyla agreed -- he's been sick all weekend -- so that saved my bacon.

I didn't log out, though. Instead, I went fishing for the first time in months. I have few expenses, so I've been effectively living off the sale of those rings I got from some BCNMs last year.

Mostly I just wanted to get some skillups. My fishing skill has been stalled at 93 for a long time, I was already in Port Jeuno, and it seemed like a good time to go after Black Sole. If you need a clear indicator of just how long it's been since I fished for gil, I couldn't remember which lure to use at first. Very sad. I always carry my Lu Shang and my "big three" lures -- the Minnow, Sinking Minnow, and Shrimp Lure -- so it didn't take long to get back up to speed.

Best of all? I got a .2 fishing skillup on the first sole I reeled in. That's a great way to start off the new year. Better still, I got another .2 less than an hour later. One of my resolutions for the new year was to finally get fishing to 100, so this was a great way to start. I caught four stacks and put them up at the auction house -- they're currently selling at 12k -- before I logged out.

I'm tempted to go after Dil (a recipe substitute for Black Sole) as a change of pace, but I don't know if it's worth all that travel when an airship to Jeuno is so much faster.
