Assault on Davoi

I wasn't always the rough-and-ready powerhouse specimen of tarutaru hotness that I am today. Before Monk and Beastmaster, my career was as a very squishy White Mage. That's why I feel a considerable sense of paranoia when I have to go anywhere near the hilltop house in Davoi, because I remember what a hairball it was to get up there back when Neyla and I were trying for Rank 10.

Yesterday

was just Campaign battles, but today Neyla and I helped Dalamar with more Windurst missions. We had to go to the house in Davoi to fight Dirtyhanded Gochakzuk for his cursed wands. Neyla went as Beastmaster and Dalamar was Paladin. I'm so used to dreading every second of my time in that place that I didn't realize how squishy the orcs are now that I'm a 75 Monk. We fought our way around the house to the elevator and killed everything in our path until we reached the door.

It was an unfortunate encounter. Gochakzuk had a few bodyguards inside the house who immediately went for Neyla. The NM linked to them and started casting, so I waded in and started punching. I didn't bring any poison potions, so my Hundred Fists was rendered useless when he popped off Sleepga II. Neyla wasn't having any problems keeping the minions occupied, but Gochakzuk started spamming us with ugly -ga spells and killed us. We had to homepoint.

Neyla changed over to Red Mage for crowd control before we headed back. We killed our way to the house again and this time the fight was very different. Neyla kept the minions slept while Dalamar and I focused on the leader. His -ga spells this time were more enfeebling than elemental damage, so it was much easier.

We went to Boyahda Tree after that to farm some Goobue Hummus. I switched to Beastmaster and charmed Korrigans for the fights. It didn't take long to get the Hummus, so we took a black mandy downstairs and killed everything that moved until we got a coffer key so Dalamar could obtain the map.

Rollin' Dem Bonze

Neyla has been leveling his Samurai subjob lately, part of his casting about for a melee job to take to 75. I spent the weekend at my parents' house, but I'd pop on to feed the chocobo and saw Neyla's levels had been steadily rising.

message waiting when I logged on back in my apartment said I should clear my tonberry hate because he was helping Dalamar with the Windurst rank missions, and that we'd be going after Bonze Marberry.

I'd never done that quest before, so I had to run to Norg and trade three Gold Beastcoins to one of the guys lurking near the stairs. He gave me a Tonberry Key to access the old tonberry priest hiding away in the Temple of Uggalepih. I had to pay the maximum 6k to erase my hate.

We started the afternoon's adventures with the San d'Oria escort. I got 1449xp from the scroll, which made me happy.

The three of us returned to Windurst and went into Toraimorai Canal to kill the four Hinge Oils and gain access to the door on the opposite side. Neyla went as Beastmaster, I was Monk/Dancer, and Dalamar was Black Mage for the extra nuking power. The oils were semi-annoying, but we got through them.

Neyla and I outposted to the Temple of Uggalepih while Dalamar ran around talking to assorted NPCs. Neyla pulled mobs near the zone to stave off boredom, and I called my NPC Gauldeval to get him a little xp and close the gap with Yawawa.

One of the Temple Bees used a Final Sting for 700+ damage, which dropped me into the orange. After some buffs, a second Final Sting only did 168.

"That time you took it like a man, you taru candyass," Neyla groused.

"I humbly submit I took it like a man on the first one as well," I said.

Neyla had wanted to tackle the orc in Davoi, but we were already hitting the time I wanted to log out. I was spared having to cut the festivities short by Dalamar, who needed to log anyway because he had company. We'll probably try the orc Tuesday, although hopefully with additional firepower.
