Hatchling

The
Final Fantasy XI - Chocobo
It's a boy!
chocobo egg I bought from the NPC vendor in Jeuno hatched today, and it's a boy. I look forward to seeing what it'll be. As I told Neyla while I ran out to join him for some Campaign battles, in fifteen days I'll know if it's a color worth keeping or if I'll retire it immediately.

We did a lot of campaigns today, bouncing mostly between Grauberg and Meriphataud Mountains, because Neyla needed 12k to reach his goal. He got so close at the end of one fight that we finished it off by fighting the Goblin Picaroon in West Sarutabaruta [S].

Gigas Farming

Neyla needed a change of pace, so he decided to try a little gigas farming in Upper Delkfutt's Tower.

It

was not a great success on our part. There were already two other people fighting everything that popped, and they could kill a lot faster than we could. My heart wasn't really in it because I already own Pallas and Enkelados bracelets and don't mind loaning them out when Neyla hits those levels.

We gave up and prepared to leave. Neyla was still in a farming mood and suggested we hit Beadeaux to get the coffer key I'll need to quest my Temple Cyclas again. One of the gigas farmers, on the verge of being snotty about the competition, slapped Neyla. Normally that would be our cue to stick around and kill everything we could simply to inconvenience them, but we really didn't care.

The quadav were feeling generous and gave up a key on the first fight, so we zoned into Qulan Dome and killed Ruby Quadav for fun.

I didn't feel like staying on long after that, so I did a Campaign fight or two to finish off a merit and unlock Penance. It inhibits a mobs TP accumulation when you hit them with Chi Blast; I'll have to try it out later.

I didn't have time today because Neyla wasn't paying attention and ran into a gnat in Sauromugue Champaign [S]. I tried to help him kill it, but it was rated Tough and had wicked evasion. Neyla kept telling me to run, but I was stubborn and tried to hit the damned thing. I finally ended up running for the NPC so I could switch to White Mage and return with Raise III.

Green With Envy

As predicted, I really only logged on for guild points while on vacation. My nephew Andy watched me for a few minutes at one point and I switched over to WHM/SMN so I could show off the avatars, but it was mostly just fishing.

As
Final Fantasy XI - Fisherman's Guild
I obtain a key item I will likely never use.
a result, I was able to claim the final Fisherman's Guild key item today: Mooching. It's doubtful I'll ever use it, since going after the Ebisu Rod would likely involve using rings and meatballs for bait instead of the live bait you get from that fat galka bastard Zaldon. I just wanted it for the sake of completion.

Speaking of things left undone, Miros requested some red chocobo breeding cards. It made me feel a little nostalgic for the bird-raising process, and on a whim I traveled to Jeuno to buy a random egg from the little mithra girl. I imagine the odds of my getting a green chocobo are very slim, but you never know.

I still have the green female cards Shmedly gave me. I'll have to track down some male cards later. I was also surprised to see I still had a black female chococard from Kleptopyro; if I can breed it with BlackComet and get a black female of my own, that'd be a complete breeding pair.
