Sahagin's Heroes

Today was a good day for quests.

Over the past few days I've been working on the chef quests in Mhara for a map of Toraimari Canal. I finished it today by delivering a pizza from the chef to an NPC in Selbina. I ended up riding the boat a few times to catch Gugru Tuna for Neyla, who's been making Tuna Sushi to boost her cooking skills. The map will come in handy when we do Windurst Mission 7-1 later in the week. I also completed the final Gobbiebag quest to boost my inventory to 60 slots.

Neyla and I went to Oldton Movalpolis and found the treasure chest she needed for the map. We were going to try to get another hotrock (she got the drop yesterday), but an insanely fast Red Mage with a Kraken Club was claiming them first. We left and headed for the Sea Serpent Grotto and quickly found the treasure chest for the next map.

We stayed in the grotto for a little while so Neyla could fight Sahagins and I could get some decent screenshots for a new forum signature. I had started giggling over the idea of killing sahagins and finding tartar sauce, so that's what I put in the sig (view). I think the new sig is pretty funny and will hopefully generate some positive feedback. My new "give a taru a fish" sig (view) has been getting highh marks.

With the grotto out of the way, I went to Qufim Island to try my hand at Black Sole and Gigant Squid. Both are used in sushi recipes and generate decent amounts of gil. The squid are insanely easy to catch now that I have the Lu Shang.

Promyvion-Dem

Neyla and I have been hanging out a lot this week. Today we went into Oldton Movalpolos and killed a bunch of mobs for a treasure chest key so she could get the map. We also tracked down the Moblin Ashman and killed him for a Moblin Hotrock (which is used in the Ulegeurand Range map quest). We waited for him to pop again, but he didn't drop anything.

We also spent a decent amount of time in Sea Serpent Grotto. I wanted to go fishing for nebimonites, grimmonites and bream. Neyla wanted a chest key. We agree the fishy Sahagin beastmen are the coolest in the game. "Finally," Neyla declared, "a beastman I can respect." They're very Lovecraftian and seem like the most intelligent beastmen out there.

WickedWayz works its way through Promyvion-Dem.
The linkshell decided to do a run through Promyvion-Dem. Three of us had anima, and the race through the zone went well. We never drew aggro until the final sprint toward the boss fight, but it's more acceptable then because you're so close to the zone.

The actual boss fight was a disaster. With only three of us using anima instead of all six, we couldn't keep it off-balance enough to kill it. The boss spawned a few smaller creatures to harrass us, and that didn't help. The entire party died. Veresko blamed himself for telling the melees to use their two-hour abilities too soon, but I think the lack of anima is what really did us in.

Otak the Artist

One of my linkshell's leaders, Otak, is a pretty decent artist who lives in Hong Kong. To celebrate my Lu Shang, she put together this picture of my character. It's going to be my desktop wallpaper for awhile, I think.

Obtained: Lu Shang Fishing Rod

I finally finished the Lu Shang quest today. I spent the weekend at my parents' house and had only 300 carp to go, so I decided to fish them up myself. I bought a few stacks, but mostly I just burned my way through nearly two dozen stacks of insect paste in Windurst Woods, Rabao and Rolanberry Fields.

For fun (and to create a little dramatic tension), I put my countdown in my search comment and updated it after every second stack. There were a few other players out there -- Bogo, Ivalice, Shakaar, Shizia, Nocturnal, etc. -- who sent me /tells to cheer me on and congratulate me.

I tested my Lu Shang in Windurst Woods while Neyla made tuna sushi.
I only needed twelve moat carp when I ran out of bait, so I bought four stacks of little worms and headed for Port San d'Oria to finish the quest. I was also catching gold carp and tricolor carp, so it took awhile. Bogo turned up on the dock to cheer me on and call me "a bloody tease" every time I reeled in something that wasn't a moat carp.

I also did the countdown in Linkshell chat for fun. I reeled in the last one, turned them in, and discovered I had one left. I'd forgotten to sort my inventory. I turned in the last single carp and received my rod and the testimonial.

The rod is even better than I imagined. After holding some ingredients so Neyla could skill up cooking on tuna sushi, I bought crayfish paste and headed for Sea Serpent Grotto. I could reel in Bastore Bream like they were freakin' moat carp. I was also catching Grimmonites, which sell for 7-8k each. Neyla followed me to get a chest key for the map, and I gave away a Damp Scroll (17k) and caught another of my own and three or four others I couldn't carry.

I also made a post at QCDN about it. Now I have to design a new sig for myself. I have two or three design ideas bouncing around in my head.
