Hallelujah

To
Final Fantasy XI - Ninja
It feels great to be finished with this damned subjob.
quote Jeebus, "It is finished."

Neyla and I finished off Ninja today with one final swing through Bibiki Bay. He'd called Yawawa the day before to help him out with the carnage, so I figured I'd try using Gauldeval today. It was nice when he still had MP and could cast Dia and Paralyze and stuff like that, but he started sucking as soon as he depleted his reserves and I dismissed him.

Neyla's run had a small hitch in the way of untimely death while on his last mob. With all the R0 action I've been getting lately, I'm kinda surprised it hasn't happened sooner. I usually get control back in time to save him. He lost 400xp and had to do a couple more fights, but we're finished and it feels great.

I feel about Ninja the way many players do about leveling White Mage: It's a pain in my ass. The way we did it is certainly unconventional, but I'm not going to complain because it saved us a lot of headaches and gil.

Eureka! RedGirl learns Treasure Finder!
other news, RedGirl learned Treasure Finder today, which will give me a little extra edge while playing the Hot and Cold game. I've shifted her care plan over to Deliver Packages to try and get her Strength and Endurance leveled, and I've doing a couple races each day to earn enough chocobucks to buy one of those stat boosts. It takes 80 chocobucks, which I finished earning today. I can apply it when she reaches adulthood on Saturday.

I'll be at my parents' house all week, so gaming and blogging will be light. I'm only logging on to feed RedGirl, check my garden, and do a race or two.

Burnout

Leveling Ninja has been a real chore, a necessary evil we've pushed hard to finish. I logged out almost immediately after returning to Windurst yesterday because I was feeling burned out over it. I take comfort from being almost finished. Neyla and I hit Bibiki Bay again today to burn off an Empress Band charge, and now we're 3000xp away from 37 and being completely finished.

I

Enhanced Pugils play rough in Temenos West.
would've logged out today for more Prison Break DVD goodness, but I had Limbus. Quieren was out of town on business and wanted Celvantes to lead the run. I started building the alliance when I got to Jeuno, hoping like hell Celvantes would turn up to relieve me of the responsibility. He eventually logged on and we hit Temenos West.

It's one of my favorite zones because it drops a lot of coins. Everyone got three with eight leftovers for the linkshell bank (Achates gave them to me to give to Quieren). My Loquacious Earring is so close I can taste it; it almost sucks that I'll be at my parents' house next week for vacation and will miss the next two runs, but I may use that 100k I'd normally spend on the entry fees to buy some coins.

In other news, RedGirl's discernment level reached Average today and she learned Gallop for increased speed. I switched her over to a physical care plan.

Assault and Battery

The
Final Fantasy XI - Ninja
I hate when they use Mysterious Light.
past few days have been largely dedicated to leveling Ninja and we're in the home stretch. We spent Thursday and Friday working off Empress Band charges in Lower Delkfutt's Tower, getting about 1500xp for each circuit of two Magic Urns and the four gigas patrolling the large room.

I camped Nue two more times and didn't get anything from him two more times. It's getting personal, but I really can't get too worked up about it since I don't technically need to quest my own Brown Belt until I have the Black Belt items in my hand... and what are the odds of that happening?

Neyla spent Friday evening in the Sea Serpent Grotto with Crookedmidget and some others, killing sahagins and fighting NMs behind the different doors. Crook sent me a /tell asking if I wanted to join them for some carnage, but I was getting ready to log out at that point.

The only major thing I have to report is something that happened Sunday morning. Nearly a year after the release of Treasures of Aht Urghan, I finally took part in my first Assault.

Otak, Zoner, Veresko, Apu, and Aimartaru were hitting the undersea ruins and asked if I wanted to join them as Beastmaster. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to swing an axe instead of keeping people alive from the back row. I'd used the Runic Portal when I went there for a merit party with Quieren, so I was spared having to ride a chocobo.

The
Final Fantasy XI - Assault
Cthulhu called and he wants his look back.
undersea ruins are set up as 100 floors, each with a different goal that lets you move up. On one floor it might be killing everything that moves, while another may have you killing one monster or just Notorious Monsters. Having so many NMs in one place is interesting, and we killed Bomb King, Jaggedy-Eared Jack and Asphyxiated Amsel one run.

We were stumped on the first run by a floor requiring us to light five lamps because we couldn't figure out the sequence and ran out of time. We did a second run and got about the same distance. Otak wanted to make a third attempt but realized we had to stop for Limbus. The Assault was fun, and it's definitely something I'd like to explore down the road.

Limbus was fine, netting three Ancient Beastcoins from the Temenos zone with all the elementals.

In ENM news, our new Ninja Ghaleon finally joined us weeks after becoming an official member. He uses the same character model as Hadafal, leading to many jokes about long-lost twin brothers. I'm not going to ask which one is the evil twin. I won the lot on the Geist Earring.

So,
Final Fantasy XI - Ninja
Neyla killed this poor dhalmel in Bibiki Bay.
fast forward to today's visit to Bibiki Bay for Ninja Leveling. Neyla and I were at 34 when we arrived, and nearly all dhalmels, birds and bunnies were Tough. I'd used my Empress Band before I logged out Sunday night, so I got double charges out of it. When Neyla's turn came, he burned off a charge and did an extra 1500xp, and he'll do the same tomorrow to catch up.

At this pace, we'll complete our Ninja subjobs on Thursday and we'll be damned happy to be clear of it. I'll be on vacation visiting my parents next week, so we'll have to set up some Royal Jelly runs or something to get our Utsusemi: Ni scrolls when I return.

In other news, RedGirl's mental Receptivity hit Average today and her Discernment should get there in the next day or two. I've been taking regular walks and should have the story for Gallop soon. Then I can spam stories at her until she learns that and Treasure Hunter. I toyed with retiring her, but I think I'll go ahead and switch her to a physical regimen to max her out before she retires.
