Sigil Surrender

I
Final Fantasy XI - Puppetmaster
More worm slaughter in Gustaberg.
returned to North Gustaberg [S] to burn off an Empress Band charge by killing Tunnel Worms. The xp has slowed down significantly, but I managed to ding 16 before returning to Windurst.

The big pain in my ass was getting the Allied Sigil before the fighting could start. I zoned into Bastok while it was having a Campaign battle, and I had to wait about thirty minutes before it was over so I could talk to the NPC. Seriously, there's no reason why that NPC has to evacuate with the rest. If the guy giving out tags for the fight can stick around, the Sigil guy can as well.

I got so irritated about it that I tried to get online with customer service, but the reps were busy and I gave up and closed the chat window after about twenty minutes.

It Takes a Thief

Wow. It seems like Thieves get hosed pretty hard on their Artifact Armor. Neyla called me and asked if I wanted to log on to help Crookedmidget get his AF, and it took a long time.

I
Final Fantasy XI - Crookedmidget
Crookmidget, Neyla and I fight a goblin NM in Sauromugue Champaign.
don't remember any mind-numbingly evil quests on my jobs, but maybe I'm just filtering it out because I didn't enjoy Thief and have no desire to take it beyond where I abandoned it. I can't really complain too much about the time investment, since I'd just received a copy of Walking Dead #8: Made to Suffer from Amazon, and the downtime meant I could read it while I waited for Crook to do the necessary legwork.

The first stop was Castle Oztroja. Crook had the tools to pick the coffer's locks, but we had to clear the area around the coffer and the first yagudo dropped a key. That was a fun bit of luck.

Our next stop was Sauromugue Champaign, where we had to pop and kill the goblin Climbpix Highrise. There are six towers scattered around the zone, and he pops at a random one. The first five are easy to check, but the sixth requires passing through Banishing Gates or the Cavernous Maw. Naturally, that was the one we needed. We did a long loop around to reach it -- receiving a cutscene allowing us to use our NPC Fellows in past regions in the process -- and even saw Roc flapping around when we returned to the present. We killed the goblin and moved on.

Our next destination was the Drachenfall in North Gustaberg. I headed straight for the pop point and relaxed with my book while Crook did the quest. I think it took an hour, mostly because he had to gamble with goblins in Dangruf Wadi and lost a few times. When you lose, you have to start over. I kinda wish he'd lost one more time, since he and Neyla were ready to do the fight when I was within five pages of finishing the story. The goblin died fast.

The last stop, and by far the most evil, was Garlaige Citadel.

Crook had to hit Windurst for some cutscenes, then wander the Citadel and click some ??? scattered around the place. He also controlled Daemonforge to help us get through the Banishing Gates. Once all that running around was finished, we had to fight a bomb NM called Chandelier.

Oh,

what a prick. I'm telling you, theives are getting hosed.

The problem with Chandelier is that he'll self-destruct if he sees someone before you claim him. He'll self-destruct if you're casting a spell when he pops. Any aggro at all, and KABOOM! He blew up three times before we could claim him, the second time resulting in the only death of the day when he did 1,537 damage to me and dropped me like a brick. I was going to pull him with Chi Blast, but he'd explode before I could target him.

The fourth time we changed tactics and moved everyone down the hall out of sight range. Crook hauled ass back to us as soon as his cutscene ended, and the bomb floated lazily for a few seconds before we waded in and killed him. He actually died faster than the goblins, and he never landed a single hit on me because I managed to keep shadows up.

It was a productive day, to be sure.

I Brake For Pimp Hats

My

Tunnel Worms have no defense.
trusty automaton and I killed a lot of worms menacing North Gustaberg [S] today. I'd never really wandered around there much until today, and I was surprised at how far I could roam in search of prey before I started encountering aggro monsters.

I'd forgotten to take my Battle Gloves out of storage, so I couldn't wear them when I dinged 14; at least I'd remembered to get my +1 Courage Rings off a mule. I didn't give in to temptation and attack the saplings roaming around, but I certainly wanted to try.

I was closing in on Lv. 15 when Kristahl asked in the linkshell if anyone wanted to help with the Miser Murphy fight for the Red Mage pimp hat. Ziaro was already there as RDM 75. I needed a break, so I fought my way to Bastok and changed over to Monk. Neyla advised me to go /NIN if I wanted any hope of surviving; he went along to tank it as Paladin.

Miser Murphy didn't pop immediately, so we had to stand around a few minutes waiting for him with 300tp. Neyla wasn't kidding about the ghost NM's Endrain ability, because it was knocking off 400-500 each time it landed a hit. Agh!

also did the doll fight in Garliage Citadel. Some asshat Dark Knight named Sargentblade was killing bats and beetles near the first Banishing Gate, ostensibly to grief the xp party camped there. He even tried to enlist our aid! The party leader (who actually knew how to spell "Sergeant") asked him to leave. I don't know why the DRK was angry at the party, but I'd like to think they kicked him because of all the /say macro bullshit.

The doll fight was easy as hell, and Ziaro gave me Warp II since he was on Black Mage this time. I returned to North Gustaberg [S] to kill a few more worms. This time I went PUP/MNK, because I hadn't used /WHM to Cure myself and really only gave up Dia. I dinged 15 before logging out.

I'll keep soloing until I hit 20 and obtain the next frame before taking a break and going back to Campaign awhile. The beastmen control the world again.

Luck Rune Follies

At
Final Fantasy XI - Puppetmaster
My old stomping grounds near the Luck Rune.
my parents' house for the weekend holiday celebrations, I only logged on long enough to download the latest updates and pop my Empress Band from my position in Tahrongi Canyon.

The effects were still active when I logged on this afternoon, and I started killing mobs near the Luck Rune awhile. A tarutaru Dragoon and his high-level Red Mage friend wandered through briefly, but I used Dia to claim repopping mobs before they could get them. They left and I toiled away.

After the ring wore, I traveled to North Gustaberg [S] to check the Tunnel Worms outside town. I got lucky because there were no Campaign battles to keep me from getting the Allied Sigil, and I burned off a second ring charge before I logged out.
