Ice Station Taru

As
Final Fantasy XI - Dragoon
The demons gave my Dynamis-Xarcabard flashbacks.
expected, Xarcabard gave us a much better Fields of Valor experience. I went first so I could clear out mobs near the outpost, and we jumped straight to the last page of the Field Manual. We had to kill demons, ahriman and gigas.

I just want to say that demons suck ass because of their howl attack that gives you Slow. When you're using two-handed weapons, it's agonizing. Ugh. I was having flashbacks to Dynamis-Xarcabard as we ran between sets of stairs, although of course this involved fighting in one spot instead of kiting and grumbling about Paladins who run too fast for Cure V.

Neyla and I had one death each, the results of blood aggro from the ghosts and bones. We'd never be lucky enough to be attacked by only one creature. Instead, it was always a group. When I had my shot at death, it was from a ghost floating a good distance away until the two ahriman we were fighting doubled up on Eyes on Me attacks and knocked me into the red. It was like ringing a dinner bell.

The ring of gigas to the north-east was an XP gold mine. You could run laps around it and never worry about blood aggro. When I realized I'd regained the ability to use Penta Thrust, I started spamming it to rip through the mobs even more.

Each round of Fields of Valor took about 30 minutes, and we did it four times before finally returning to Windurst. I'm about 12k from hitting 75 and retiring Dragoon in favor of another melee job.

The Taru Who Came In from the Cold

We've

We fought through Fei'yin awhile.
exhausted Beaucedine Glacier's menagerie for now. We can't do Fields of Valor until we come back with a lower-synced job combination. We fought our way from the outpost to Fei'yin and then went inside to continue the slaughter.

We stayed on the top floor and killed a lot of Easy Prey bats, golems, and shadows. It didn't seem worth it, really. It wasn't a waste of time, but it was slow.

Xarcabard is definitely the next stop on this crazy leveling merry-go-round.

Freezing my Taru Buns Off

The
Final Fantasy XI - Dragoon
The Stone Golems were not hard to kill.
Beaucedine Glacier has been prime leveling grounds all week. Neyla and I have been out there the past few days, using Fields of Valor to add earn bonus points. We started out with the fourth page of targets before maxing out on the fifth page of goblins, ahriman and gigas. It's shocking how quickly it rolls in when two people are chewing their way through Easy Prey mobs.

I dinged 73 on Wednesday and then hit 74 today, 40k later. That's a whole lot of killing and not a lot else. We were originally staying near the outpost, but we eventually started making circuits out to Fei'yin and back.

We also killed the NM golem Gargantua twice. Neyla knocked off the Level Sync to pop me back up to the 70s for a quicker kill and then we'd go on our way. It dropped an Elemental Charm, which isn't worth much. I'll shuffle it through the auction house a few times and sell it to an NPC if I can't unload it.

I'll probably retire Dragoon when it hits 75, since there'll be no reason to use it when I have Monk and Beastmaster available. I may start leveling Warrior or Samurai next. Blue Mage is tempting, but the spell acquisition would be nightmarish for the pace we keep.
